‘Light on the Stairs’, Compton House
Watercolour
There are times when I tutor around the UK that I am provided with with really super accommodation. This was just one of those times when I ran a painting holiday near Cheddar. I had a whole floor to myself!
This is the view as I look back down my private stairwell. The light catching the table looked just great!
Serious amounts of masking fluid were employed over a very careful drawing which allowed me to apply a number of loose washes. Naples Yellow was great for the light around the window.
I’ve applied some really strong dark washes, something that can be quite challenging without a good brush!
